Silvers (over 55's)
Silvers is a group dedicated to the over 55’s which meets at The Vine Centre every Thursday 11am-2.30pm.
If you are over 55 you are very welcome to come along. You will receive a hot cuppa, lots of friendly company and a very warm welcome.
Social isolation and loneliness can seriously affect the older generation, having a significant impact on health and wellbeing.
We regularly organise activities and talks that may be of interest and beneficial to our visitors. One recent talk was given by a PCSO on safety in the home. We have craft sessions that cover many different topics. As well as organising trips to places such as Wisley where we all enjoyed a day out in the gardens.
Looking forward, we have a first aid session specifically for older people, free health checks, and armchair yoga. Plus we hope to organise activities such as flower arranging. We are always open to suggestions from the group as to what they would like to do and will try to arrange these ideas whenever possible.
We hope that coming to our group can help to improve people’s lives, by building friendships, gaining confidence and having a chance to socialise.
Lunch is provided for everyone free of charge. Plus everyone who visits can access the all other services here at The Vine Centre. We have a support worker and dedicated volunteers who work hard to make sure that needs are met of everyone who attends Silvers. A community nurse also comes along each week, and is available should anyone have any health concerns.
After lunch attendees are able to join in with Paint Mixers.
12 March 2019 - A big thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for their generous grant of £9844. This means that we can keep our weekly over 55s group free of charge to older people struggling with hardship.
